There is such a pressure to be impressive. You look to your left and your right and you want to keep pace with those around you. You want the new car. You want the new house. You want the new life.
All to impress…who?
Here is what I know. To try to be “impressive”, in this way, is not the answer. What’s impressive today looks unimpressive faster than we want it to. This impressiveness is not the answer.
It’s subjective. And, come on, it’s missing the point. Have you ever looked back at what you once thought was impressive and said, “What a total waste of time!”? Society is wishy-washy. Societal impressiveness is really missing the point.
I guess the question is, “Who are you trying to impress?” Trying to impress society? You will fail. You will, believe me.
Let’s talk about a different kind of impressiveness. How about the impression we give our kids?! Our kids are watching and impressed with us…either good or bad. WE ARE LAYING AN IMPRESSION.
We are impressive! Again, either good or bad, we are laying an impression.
Are you laying the impression you want on your kids? I believe you are and want to be ( you’re reading this…you’re trying, right?) This requires intentionality, though, doesn’t it. Be intentional about what you are impressing on your kids.
I was told once that every interaction with our kids should be about helping them become the adults you dream they will be. Sounds extreme, but when you stop and reflect on that, it’s true. They are always looking to you as a model and inspiration.
I’m here to say to you that no matter what your past, you can be that positive force in your kids lives. You can be that difference maker.
You can lay a positive impression. Be impressive!
Thanks Pops!
